Ever notice how when you go deep into a backbend—o Ever notice how when you go deep into a backbend—or lift something heavy—you really feel it in one or two spots in your spine?

That sharp, concentrated sensation isn’t a sign of “going deeper.” It’s often a sign that a few joints are doing way too much, while the rest of your spine is hanging out on the sidelines.

What if instead of chasing more sensation, we aimed for less? Not because we’re backing off effort or intensity—but because the load and movement are being shared across all the joints, the way it’s meant to be.

🧘‍♂️ It’s not about how much you know; it’s about 🧘‍♂️ It’s not about how much you know; it’s about being able to answer questions and solve problems. Being a great yoga teacher isn’t about memorizing muscle names, yoga sutras, or the right blend of crystals and sage. It’s about solving real problems—like figuring out how to properly mobilize the shoulder in your sequences, making a student’s knee more comfortable in certain poses, or holding the the necessary space for your students. Critical thinking, not just knowledge, sets great teachers apart.

When you look at something like the supine twist in this video, ask yourself: What are we trying to achieve? What areas of the body should we involve or protect? How can we tweak it to make it more effective? These are the skills that truly matter in teaching yoga.

In my trainings, I don’t want you to memorize techniques or information. My goal is for you to become a critical thinker.
